Kahu Kapi`ioho`okalani Lyone which means striving continuously towards the heavens, was born an raised in Kipahulu, one of the most secluded place on Maui. At the age of 6 he was brought to a secluded place on the island and left alone. After crying out of loneliness, fear and hunger, Kahu survived by using his natural instincts and connecting with all of nature. This was the beginning of his Huna training in the ancient Hawaiian traditions.
For the next 7 years, he was a helper to his teacher and grandmother Ka'alo, she was the Kahuna of the Village. He had to listen, observe, imitate, and to serve the elders.
During this time Kahu received an outlook of life, existence and energy that was not available in libraries or universities.
He was given the necessary keys and tools to unlock the secrets of ancient wisdom back to the beginning of existence - the birth of spirituality.
As a young child, he was also trained as a warrior arts of Lua, the spiritual Hawaiian warriors. The older men of the village including his grandfather practiced this sacred fighting art in secret. At the age of 14 he was in the modern life and he graduate at Kamehameha school. After his grandmother died, he left his island joined the US Army Paratroopers and Rangers.
He left the military after 3 years of service and returned to his native homeland of Maui, where he became a police sergeant. Through all of this modern western career, Kahu kept his huna practice and knowledge well hidden from the general public. A near- death experience, a sign from his ancestors, made him aware to reveal his hidden Kahu life. Kahu became first president of Papa La'au Lapa'au, the first state wide organization of Kahuna healers.
In 1996, Kahu Kapi'ioho'okalani Lyons Naone, was presented the award, the youngest to be recognized at age 54. As a highly respected teacher and lecturer on Hawaiian culture and traditions, Kahu teaches at Maui College, and serves as an adjunct Professor for the PH.D. Traditional Knowledge Program at the California Institute of Integral Studies. In the Hawaiian Community, Kahu is a recognized Lani Ali'i, lifetime high chief, in the Royal Order of Kamehameha, a society of chiefs. He is also a member of a secret society of spiritual Hawaiian warriors called "Lua". As a warrior he holds the highest rank of "Olohe", of which there are less than ten presently known. Kahu is also chairman of a small group of master kahuna who's responsibility is to certify Hawaiian practices and practitioners for State government recognition and certification as Hawaiian practitioners.

Workshop: Illuna A’E – Spiritual Healing
Iluna A’e means to “spiritually elevate upwards/to become of a higher spiritual self.” It is the Hawaiian hands-on healing process to connect/re-connect with your spirituality. It helps you disconnect from issues that produce stress and anxiety and allows you to seek spiritual perfection and peace within.
Hawaiians relate to a spiritual force called ha “the spiritual breath from above.” Ha enters us from the top of our head flows through our entire being, and exits through the bottom of our feet. While ha flows through us, meets the energy from our ancestors and the energy from our future, manifesting into our present spiritual strength called mana.
The Hawaiians believe that ha is like blood that must continue to flow through our physical body to keep the body alive, and like water that must flow from the mountain to the sea to keep the land alive; ha must continue to flow through our being to keep us spiritually alive and strong. If the ha is blocked, we are spiritually ill or spiritually dead.
Therefore, iluna a’e, along with an exercise called no’ono’o pono (Hawaiian meditative exercise), is the most important wellness treatment handed down from our ancestors, yet it is the one most ignored. Because we usually associate wellness with the lack of physical symptoms, we stop short of treating our true and deeper self. As a result, the deeper issues are allowed to overburden our inner systems and glands thus silently developing into deadly diseases or emotional tragedies.
The goal of spiritual healing is to find or develop that peacefulness within. In doing so, you are able to have a higher quality of life and find immortality as a spiritual being. |
